| Abstract | This work aimed to map the land-use and the Factor C (USLE) in two stream basins (Monjolo Grande and Jacutinga) with the support of images provided by GeoEye satellite, image processing techniques and the use of Geographic Information System (GIS). The thematic maps presented in both stream basins the predominance of grazing areas as well as the concentration of the main crops of sugar cane in the region. The native forests are concentrated primarily in the areas of drainage. Forestry areas are restricted to small plots for private use. The bare soil areas are restricted to small patches scattered throughout both basins, these being the most susceptible areas to the occurrence of erosion. These maps were obtained by the procedures of segmentation and unsupervised classifications of orbital images, followed by vectorization of bounded classes. The methods employed in the processing of images were efficient. However, the steps of interpretative analysis of images and conducting field visits have provided greater accuracy to the final cartographic product. The results contributed to the implementation of the USLE model and to the understanding of the dynamics of the use and occupation and their influence on hydrosedimentological processes, supporting the development of consistent material as input to an approach to environmental planning and to the land´s management. |
